School Inspection (Ofsted)- Performance and Improvement
We constantly monitor the progress of our children and have an ongoing conversation with parents. Pupils are assessed termly. These are shared with parents at termly Parent Evening and the children's attainment and progress is reported annually in the End of Year Reports.
At the end of each Key Stage (Y2 and Y6), children take national assessments (SATs), which also include aspects of teacher assessment and are externally marked and moderated.
Most schools are inspected by Ofsted every 3 to 5 years. In addition, schools receive yearly performance data (ASP) which is collated by the Department of Education. Ofsted have launched the School Data Dashboard, which provides a snapshot of school performance at Key Stages 1 and 2.
Schools also receive a Pupil Premium Grant (PPG) for children entitled to free school meals (FSM) in order to help raise their attainment.
Ofsted Inspection Reports
Ofsted is the Office for Standards in Education, Children’s Services and Skills. They inspect and regulate services that care for children and young people, and services providing education and skills for learners of all ages.

Parent View
Parent View gives parents the chance to tell Ofsted what you think about Birch Hill.
Parent View asks for your opinion on 12 aspects of your child’s school, from the quality of teaching, to dealing with bullying and poor behaviour. We will use the information you provide when making decisions about which schools to inspect, and when.
Ofsted's toolkit explains key facts about Parent View and contains materials that can be adapted and used by schools to raise awareness of Parent View to parents.

Recently Ofsted have launched the School Data Dashboard to provide a snapshot of school performance at Key Stages 1 and 2. The dashboard can be used to check the performance of the school in which they are interested.
The School Data Dashboard complements the Ofsted school inspection report by providing an analysis of school performance over a three-year period. Data can be filtered by key stage or by topic:
- Expected progress
- Attainment
- Attendance
- Narrowing the gap between disadvantaged and other pupils
