Headteacher's Welcome

Welcome to Birch Hill Primary School and Nursery. It is a privilege to lead a committed and enthusiastic team, and a genuine pleasure to introduce our school to you.

We are a two-form entry primary school and Nursery, part of Maiden Erlegh Trust, serving the Birch Hill and Hanworth communities of Bracknell Forest. As a Trust school, we share its values — to aim high, to be inclusive, and to work together — and you will see them reflected in the everyday life of our school.

At the heart of everything we do sits the belief that every child can achieve their highest aspirations when high standards are matched by genuine care. We set the bar high and we teach children to believe they can reach it — academically, socially and personally. Alongside strong outcomes in reading, writing and mathematics, we are equally committed to developing confident, resilient and considerate young people, well prepared for the next stage of their education and for the world beyond it.

Our curriculum is knowledge-rich and evidence-informed, carefully sequenced so that learning builds securely over time and every child, whatever their starting point, is supported to reach their potential.

Inclusion is central to who we are. Alongside our mainstream provision, we are proud to host a Specialist Resource Provision supporting children with autism (ASD) and moderate learning difficulties (MLD). This is more than a facility; it shapes the culture of the whole school — one in which difference is understood, every child belongs, and staff work closely with families and other professionals to remove the barriers that can stand in the way of learning.

We can accommodate 420 children across two key stages — EYFS/KS1 and KS2 — alongside 27 Nursery places, with the flexible offer of 30 hours a week. Our single-storey site is spacious, accessible and set within well-established grounds: an environment that lends itself to calm, purposeful learning from Nursery upwards.

Our motto — Learn, Believe, Achieve Together — is underpinned by four Golden Rules: Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be Ready to Learn and Be Honest. Each class develops its own Golden Rules Charter, giving children genuine ownership of the respect and responsibility we ask of them.

We highly value our partnership with parents. Working in step with families and the whole community is the surest way to give every child a solid foundation and a lasting love of learning.

We hold school tours throughout the year, and there is no better way to understand a school than to see it at work. I would warmly encourage you to visit, to meet our children and staff, and to see for yourself what makes Birch Hill special.

I look forward to meeting you.
