School Structure

The school is organised into three phases:

• Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) - Nursery and Reception
• Key Stage 1 - Year 1 and Year 2
• Key Stage 2 - Year 3 to Year 6

In Key Stage 1, children in Years 1 and 2 are organised across three classes. These include a Year 1 class, a Year 2 class, and a mixed Year 1/2 class. This arrangement enables us to create balanced classes and respond flexibly to the needs of pupils.

In Lower Key Stage 2, children in Years 3 and 4 are organised into two classes per year group.

In Upper Key Stage 2, children in Years 5 and 6 are organised across three classes. Children belong to mixed Year 5/6 home classes for registration, pastoral care and much of the wider curriculum. For English and mathematics, children are taught in teaching groups to ensure learning is appropriately matched to their stage of learning. Groupings are reviewed regularly to ensure they continue to support high-quality teaching, learning and pupil progress across the school.

Teaching Staff

Each class is led by a class teacher who is responsible for delivering a broad and balanced curriculum, including the core subjects. Teachers teach the majority of lessons and are supported by teaching assistants and other support staff where appropriate.

All teachers are entitled to Planning, Preparation and Assessment (PPA) time. This is generally covered by Higher Level Teaching Assistants (HLTAs). Teachers may also work alongside colleagues to share the teaching of particular subjects, such as music, physical education (PE), computing or languages.

At different times throughout the year, children may also be taught by specialist staff, such as sports coaches or music teachers.

Teaching Assistants (TAs)

We employ a number of teaching assistants (TAs) to help and support the work of the class teacher. Teaching assistants work with individual children and groups of pupils, support learning activities and contribute to the supervision and wellbeing of children throughout the school day.

Generally, there is one teaching assistant assigned to each class in Reception and Key Stage 1, and one teaching assistant per phase in Key Stage 2. However, this may vary as staff are deployed according to children's needs.

The School Day

The school gates open at 8:40am, with registration taking place at 8:50am. We ask all pupils to arrive promptly so that they are ready to begin learning at the start of the school day.

Break and lunchtime arrangements are staggered across the school. Children are supervised by school staff throughout these times, and trained first aiders are on duty.

The school day finishes at:

• 3:15pm for pupils in EYFS and Key Stage 1
• 3:20pm for pupils in Key Stage 2

This amounts to 32.5 hours in a typical five-day school week.

Break times and Lunch times

The school participates in the government's fruit and vegetable scheme, which provides a piece of fruit each day for children in Key Stage 1. Children in Key Stage 2 may bring a piece of fruit or a healthy snack from home to enjoy during morning break.

Only water should be brought to school in children's water bottles. Water refill stations are available throughout the school day.

All children eat lunch in the school hall. Reception and Key Stage 1 children are served first, with Key Stage 2 classes attending on a rota.

A range of activities is available during lunchtime, including imaginative play, construction, creative activities and organised sports.

End of the Day

We ask that children are collected promptly at the end of the school day. We understand that delays can occasionally occur. If you are running late, please contact the school so that we can reassure and supervise your child until you arrive.

Site Safety

For safety reasons, parents should only park in designated parking bays. Please do not double park, park on double yellow lines, park on grass verges or use disabled parking bays without a valid Blue Badge.

Dogs are not permitted on the school site.

Children should not bring valuable items, including jewellery, to school. Please refer to the Mobile Phones Policy for guidance on mobile phone use. The school cannot accept responsibility for lost or damaged personal property, including mobile phones and smart devices.
