Year 5 Astronomy Workshop

Building on our Space topic from last half-term, Year 5 had a visit from Sarah Crick from Just Good Science today!
She held a fascinating talk to the year group about asteroids and comets. We discovered the difference between the two and learnt about some of the more famous asteroids. We also found out about the asteroid that wiped out the dinosaurs, which created the Chicxulub crater on the coast of Mexico. The children particularly enjoyed the game: 'volcano or asteroid?' in which they looked at satellite photos of a crater and had to decide what caused it.
We were lucky enough to look at real space rocks!
After the presentation, children created a mosaic of an asteroid. They showed excellent concentration and focus when working with small tiles on such an intricate piece.
The children were absolutely fantastic and had a wonderful morning, learning lots of new information about space!
