At Birch Hill Primary School, we believe that children learn best when they feel safe, valued and respected. Our Golden Rules help create a positive learning environment where everyone can succeed.

Our Golden Rules

Everyone at Birch Hill follows our four Golden Rules:

1. Be Safe
2. Be Respectful
3. Be Ready to Learn
4. Be Honest

These Golden Rules underpin everything we do and help children develop the skills, attitudes and behaviours needed to become responsible members of our school community.

Each week, one of our Golden Rules is highlighted during our whole-school assembly and becomes a focus for discussion, learning and celebration across the school.

Behaviour for Learning

We encourage children to make positive choices and take responsibility for their behaviour. Our behaviour system helps children understand the impact of their actions and supports them in making effective choices.

Our behaviour system has four stages:

• Ready to Learn
• Time to Make a Choice
• Time to Make a Change
• Time to Reflect

The system provides opportunities for children to recognise when a change in behaviour is needed and supports them in reflecting on their choices so that they can continue to learn successfully.

Celebrating Success

We believe that positive behaviour, effort and achievement should be recognised and celebrated.

Children who consistently demonstrate our Golden Rules and show excellent attitudes to learning can achieve Triple Star status and receive an invitation to our special half-termly Tea Party Celebration.

Throughout the year, we celebrate children who show kindness, resilience, responsibility, honesty and a positive contribution to our school community.

Class Charters

At the beginning of each academic year, every class creates its own Class Charter based on our Golden Rules.

Children work together to discuss how they want their classroom to feel and what behaviours will help everyone to learn, feel safe and be successful. This gives children ownership of their classroom expectations and reinforces the importance of working together respectfully.

Developing Positive Citizens

Our Golden Rules help children develop important life skills, including:

• Respect for others
• Responsibility
• Honesty
• Resilience
• Self-discipline
• Positive relationships

By working together and following our Golden Rules, we create a caring, inclusive and supportive school community where every child can thrive.

 

We also have a celebratory reward.  If you achieve Triple Star - you're invited to the half-termly Tea Party!   

At the beginning of the year each class will create a class charter using the Golden Rules.
