Birch Hill Primary Girls Explore STEM at 3M

A group of our Year 5 and 6 girls, spent a day exploring the world of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) at 3M in Bracknell.

The event was organised by Greenlight for Girls, an international organisation that inspires girls of all ages and backgrounds to consider careers in STEM. Their mission is to introduce young people to science through fun, hands-on activities.

During the visit, the pupils took part in a range of workshops — from designing rollercoasters and coding remote-controlled cars, to extracting DNAanalysing the impact of a golf swing, and building tall, stable structures.

“It was so exciting to see what science looks like in the real world and to try it for ourselves!”

Each pupil received their own lab coat and had the chance to work both individually and collaboratively, showing curiosity, enthusiasm, and teamwork throughout the day. They also met women working across STEM industries, who shared stories about their careers and inspired the group to see how science and creativity come together in many different ways.

The day reflected our school motto, “Learn, believe, achieve together,” and demonstrated how giving pupils real-world experiences can build confidence and aspiration for the future.

Congratulations to all the pupils who took part for representing the school so brilliantly  and thank you to Mrs Russell and the team at 3M for making the day possible.
